We are Upviber, a community dedicated to creating a better internet by promoting positive content. Our website address is upviber.com. Unlike big social media platforms, we do not collect data to sell or exploit your information.
Children’s Privacy
Upviber is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we discover such data, we will take steps to delete it.
Information We Collect
Comments
When you leave a comment, we collect the information you enter, along with your IP address and browser details to help detect spam. An anonymized hash of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check if you use their profile picture service. You can review Gravatar’s privacy policy here.
Media Uploads
If you upload images, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as visitors can extract this information.
Cookies
We use cookies to improve your experience:
- Commenting: Saves your name, email, and website for convenience (expires after one year).
- Login: Stores login details and display preferences. Login cookies last two days (or two weeks if “Remember Me” is checked), while display settings last one year.
- Editing Articles: Saves a temporary cookie indicating the post ID (expires after one day).
- Session Management: A temporary cookie is set on the login page to check if your browser accepts cookies (deleted upon closing your browser).
Embedded Content
Articles may include embedded content (videos, images, etc.) from other websites, which behave as if you visited them directly. These sites may collect data, use cookies, or track interactions.
How We Use and Share Your Data
At times, partial data and/or posts/comments may go to a third party:
- Security & Spam Prevention: IP addresses may be shared with Automattic (for spam detection) and Cloudflare (only if you are banned).
- Hosting & Infrastructure: Our web host, Hostinger, may process data to maintain site functionality. Review their privacy policy here.
- Weather Widget: If you allow location sharing on your dashboard, latitude and longitude coordinates are sent to weatherapi.com to fetch weather updates. Or, your IP address may be sent to ip-api.com as a backup.
- Syndication: People can subscribe to our RSS feed which would mean your posts or comments can go to various feed readers. Also, posts go out to the Fediverse (i.e. Mastodon) in an effort to promote the good vibes we share here.

Data Retention
- Comments: Might be stored indefinitely to recognize follow-ups without moderation but assigned to a different username.
- Posts: Might be stored indefinitely. The point of Upviber is to collect links to good vibes. If you contribute, your contributions may remain indefinitely but if you delete your account we will assign your posts to a different username.
- User Accounts: Profile data remains until the user deletes their account. Users can edit or remove personal details at any time (except usernames, which require admin assistance).
Your Rights
You can:
- Request an export of your personal data.
- Request deletion and anonymization of your personal data (except for records we are legally required to retain).
- Delete your account at any time via the edit profile link in your user account menu.
Where Your Data Goes
- Comments may be processed through Automattic’s spam detection service.
- IP addresses may be logged by our hosting provider (Hostinger) or Cloudflare (for banned users).
- Location data (if permitted) is sent to WeatherAPI for dashboard weather updates. If not permitted, only your IP address may still be sent to ip-api.com as a backup to ensure your weather widget functions.
- Posts/comments may go out to RSS feed readers and/or the Fediverse (i.e. Mastodon).
How We Protect Your Data
We take appropriate security measures to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. However, no online service can be 100% secure, so we encourage users to take precautions when sharing personal information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify users through the website. Your continued use of Upviber after changes are made constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
